Mahashivratri Fast Special Dessert Sweet Potato Gulab Jamun

So here is a special sweet treat Sweet Potato Gulab Jamun a perfect change for your upvas menu that is tasty, soft and satisfying.

This delicious sweet is also called Ratalyache Gulabjamun in Marathi. Made with boiled sweet potato and milk powder, these gulab jamuns turn out soft, juicy and full of flavour. It’s a simple yet unique fasting dessert that you can prepare for Mahashivratri and make your family happy with something new and special.


How to make Sweet Potato Gulab Jamun 

Ingredients

• Sweet Potato
• Milk Powder
• Oil (for frying)
• Sugar
• Water
• Cardamom Powder
• Cashew (grated)

Process 

Prepare Sweet Potato Mixture

1. Boil the sweet potatoes until soft.
2. Remove the peel and grate them smoothly.
3. Add milk powder to the grated sweet potato.
4. Mix well to form a soft dough.
5. Apply a little oil on your hands and make small smooth balls (gulab jamun shape). Make sure there are no cracks.

Fry the Gulab Jamun

6. Heat oil in a pan on low to medium flame.
7. Gently add the prepared balls into the oil.
8. Fry them slowly until they turn golden red in colour.
9. Remove and keep aside.

Prepare Sugar Syrup

10. In another pan, add water and sugar.
11. Heat and stir until the sugar melts completely.
12. Add cardamom powder and mix well.
13. Let the syrup boil for a few minutes.
14. Turn off the flame and allow the syrup to cool slightly (warm, not very hot).

Soak & Garnish

15. Add the fried gulab jamuns into the prepared syrup.
16. Let them soak for at least 1–2 hours so they absorb the syrup nicely.
17. Sprinkle grated cashew on top.
18. Sweet Potato Gulab Jamun Ready!

Tip: Boil properly but don’t overcook. Sweet potatoes should be soft but not watery. Too much moisture will make the dough sticky.
